Rhone (South) - 2006
Great wine from everywhere and because conditions were less marked by drought, successes are evenly spread. Châteauneufs are sumptuous; combining the power and strength of 2005 or 2001 with the roundness of 2000 – a winning combination. Gigondas is very special in 2006, and not surprisingly, Vacqueyras, Beaumes de Venise and Séguret, all next door to Gigondas, are good, too. Grapes ripened more evenly and produced softer rounder tannins in 2006 than in any vintage since 2000. The vintage was a success across all appellations and the individual characteristics and nuances are clearly and deliciously defined.
