Germany - 2010

Good Mosel and Rhine wines are extremely food-friendly, particularly in vintages like 2010, when wines from the best-placed vineyards kept their class and character without losing their appetising freshness. It was not a year for less well-placed vineyards, the so-called ‘potato fields’, which should never have been planted with vines. But well-exposed sites made wines with finesse and style that have not been successfully imitated anywhere else in the world. They are relatively low in alcohol, and all would keep well for five to ten years in cool cellarage, if of course you can resist them that long.
