The Chianti region, with its beautiful hills, topped with villas and dotted with cypresses, produces one of Italy's greatest wines. Grati makes lovely, modern style Chianti, principally from sangiovese, underpinning the generous fruitiness with structure from ripe tannins. Three generations of Gratis live on the estate, which is effectively two large well-sited vineyards, Galliga and Vetrice, on a hill overlooking the Sieve Valley. The Rufina district, north east of Florence, rivals Chianti Classico for the quality of its Chianti. This is fruity, soft and perfumed.
The Grati family own a magnificent hill of vines on the western side of the Rufina valley just outside the town of Rufina where part of their cellars are located.
