Semeli Mountain Sun Rosé, 2012
"This is the first wine I've tried from the Society's Mediterranean Rose selection and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of flavour and character and paired well with a Thai chicken dish. Certainly one to add to my next order."

Calvi Rouge, Cuvée Fiume Seccu Domaine Alzipratu, 2010
"Gosh, another find from the good old Wine Society. It's grown-up wine with tannin, acidity and astringency but is also well enough made that it has superb balancing body and concentration but overall is perfectly natural and un-mucked-about with, like a beautiful woman without make up on. Or man. Proper wine, fabulous value, will keep <5+ years? A delightful and unexpected surprise, high silver medal or even perhaps a cheeky little gold...?"

Litre of The Society's Amontillado
"This has been a standby for well over 30 years (eheu fugaces...). Consistently reliable, except for a few cork tainted bottles from the early 2000s onwards, so I am delighted to see that my latest delivery has reverted to the screw cap that seemed to be standard in the 1980s. I too have had occasional batches that seemed a bit more 'UK' in taste - a little sweeter than ideal and certainly sweeter than I had come to expect of this wine - but generally this has given great and predictable pleasure. My only jib nowadays is the price - at £9.50 a litre it doesn't seem as much of a bargain compared with, for example, the Maribel Amontillado at £7.50 a bottle."

Lirac Blanc, Château Mont-Redon, 2011
"This came in a mixed Rhone whites case and I thought outshone the other rather dearer whites. Good body and grip. But then I like Mont Redon's reds too!"

The Society's Exhibition Riesling, 2011
"Sometimes Riesling can be too zingy and acidic, but this one is beautifully mellow and balanced, really nice mineral flinty flavour too."

The Society's Chilean Merlot, Rapel Valley
"Very disappointing. I didn't enjoy this at all, which is a true shame. It tasted acidic and a little spoiled, even allowing it to breath did nothing for the flavour. Furthermore, after a mere couple of sips my lips and teeth were stained as if I had drunk an entire bottle of red."

Château de la Boutière, Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise, 2011
"This is a very welcome addition to your list of White Burgundies all the more so for being at the lower end of the price scale. Whilst inexpensive there are obviously no compromises on quality which is excellent. Fresh and easy to drink and goes very well with food or on its own. I shall be buying it again if it remains on your list."
