Côte de Nuits

The cool climate, well drained slopes and clay-limestone soils combine to make the Côte de Nuits ideal for the pinot noir grape. Centuries of grapegrowing has meant that an intricate system of vineyard classification has evolved. Top of the tree are the grands crus – with the exception of Corton in Côte de Beaune, all the red grands crus are situated in the Côte de Nuits – then the premiers crus, which are still very good, from further down the slope.
