Burgundy (Cote d'Or) - 2009
Overall, 2009 was a year of excellent weather, warmer than usual, resulting in ripe, healthy grapes from which rich, extrovert wines of very good quality were made. The wines are generously flavoured and are supported by sufficient acidity. They will be delicious in their youthful pomp and in the medium term.
2009 was an easy year in the vineyard for the vignerons. Flowering occurred quickly promising homogenous ripening. June and early July were a little cool. The greatest problem was a severe hailstorm on 13th July. August was excellent, with a few very hot days, and September was beautifully dry and sunny. Ripe and healthy grapes were harvested in perfect conditions.
The only potential problem in 2009 is over-ripeness. But the conscientious producers monitored grape maturity assiduously and started harvesting early, from the 5th September.
