Sancerre, Pouilly

Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé need little introduction; the less well-known appellations of Menetou-Salon, Reuilly and Quincy are also well worth seeking out. The best wines show the grape’s characteristic aroma and fresh acidity but also echo the chalky, stony flavours from the local flint and limestone soils. When conditions are right, the pinot noir grape can flourish here too, producing reds and rosés of great elegance and refinement.
