Alsace - 2010

2010 is a vintage of exciting extremes. There are very high levels of ripeness yet all the wines are marked by wonderful freshness and acidity which is an indicator that the wines will provide many years of drinking pleasure. The best wines are truly dramatic, to be compared with 2001 or even 1971. The flavours are all finely chiselled so that each grape variety is clearly defined and perfectly focussed. Gewurztraminer and pinot gris stand out and are exceptional, and there are some wonderful rieslings too.
