Tuscany - 2008

A very good vintage that had not yielded much cause for optimism until much-needed rainfall arrived in September. After a very wet spring, the grapes endured drought conditions, but the heavens finally opened enabling the ripening process to get back on track. For this reason, the later-ripening sangiovese and cabernet varieties performed better than merlot. Despite a hailstorm in Brunello laying waste to vast amounts of fruit, the resultant wines are looking well-balanced and rich in acidity. By and large, the ripe and expressive wines from this vintage should be drunk young, but many top performers will age admirably.
