While 2008 had seen challenging frosts, the onset of noble rot in 2009 was rapid and abundant. With a process as delicate as winemaking from noble rot-affected grapes, one can have too much of a good thing and some precise vineyard husbandry was required to make the most of this embarrassment of riches. The best wines strike the balance between the remarkably concentrated botrytis flavours and the necessary acidity to add finesse. These wines pay testament to a superb Sauternes vintage.
