The Society’s Exhibition Viejo Oloroso Dulce

The Society’s Exhibition Viejo Oloroso Dulce

Produced for us by Sánchez Romate, this is a wonderfully rich and figgy oloroso. Ageing has concentrated not only the flavour but also the structure giving an intensely sweet wine that is opulent without being cloying. Its powerful structure allows it to stand up to most puddings, including those incorporating chocolate.

Made by Sánchez Romate

Bodegas Sánchez Romate can be found in the historic heart of Jerez de la Frontera, and is one of the few bodegas still entirely owned by Jerez families. Show more >

"Quite agree that it’s perfect for Christmas – but waiting a year for the next go is impossible. I had one bottle over Christmas and immediately ordered two more. Powerfully sweet but still with characteristic Oloroso finish: delicious."

Dr John Erskine (06-Jan-2013)

"Superb value. Don't wait until Christmas. Excellent with puddings but even better with toasted almonds, manchego and pear. Figgy, yes. But I can taste licorice and pipe smoke. Delicious."

Dr Brock Chisholm (24-Sep-2012)

"A superb bottle, and excellent value - a glass or two has accompanied the Christmas cake until it's final demise last night."

Mr David Lay (20-Jan-2012)

"Well worth buying and leaving. Gets like traditional old bottled sherry with age. If you can wait that is! A real treat and very good value."

Mr Crispin R M Jones (29-Nov-2011)

"The use of the word "explosive" is quite apt, I still remember the initial shock of the very first taste, before the comforting velvety warmth did melt away the cold hard edges of winter."

Mr Dominic Walton (18-Oct-2011)

"Like the previous contributors, we buy this at Christmas. The most striking thing for me is the wonderful deep, brown colour which draws you in to savour the richness of the wine. Why not buy it at other times of the year? Great value."

Mr Thomas Keane (13-Jan-2011)

"Like Mr Cambray I always buy a bottle or two around Christmas time. I can hardly think that there is better value for money anywhere on the Society's list than in this superb dessert wine with its wonderful fruity sweetness. Magnificent and, as they say, a steal."

Bernard T Hawcroft Esq (15-Mar-2010)

"Perfect with traditional Christmas pudding - I buy a bottle every year for just that reason."

Philip A Cambray (11-Nov-2009)
