The Society's Exhibition Pauillac 2005 |
|
The Society’s Exhibition Pauillac has a classy pedigree. It has for several years been sourced from the Domaines Baron de Rothschild estates of first growth Château Lafite and its neighbour and increasingly high-achiever Duhart-Milon. In 2005, an exceptional year throughout Bordeaux, they have made an exquisite wine.
The 2005 vintage 2005 is a brilliant and exciting vintage for Bordeaux. The secret of its success is that all the elements which make good wine are present in abundance and crucially also in balance. The fruit was completely ripe, healthy and high in natural sugar. The natural sweetness was balanced by vibrancy which gives the wine lovely perfume, freshness and lift. I can only say with confidence that no vintage of the last 25 years has quite the same combination of attributes. Every cellar of fine wines should contain some bottles from this vintage. A wonderful combination of fine estates and exemplary winemaking in an outstanding vintage; the class shows. This is a lovely Claret with plenty of backbone, yet still made to be enjoyed relatively early. Drink 2010 to 2015. 12.5%

The commune of Pauillac (with its three first-growth châteaux) is for many Claret drinkers the heart of the Médoc’s finest wines. This is where the cabernet sauvignon grape, which gives them their distinction, achieves its full expression. This wine is from grapes grown on Rothschild’s Lafite and Duhart-Milon vineyards not included in their first wine. It is thanks to The Society’s long-established relationship with Bordeaux’s outstanding estates that we can source such wines and offer them to members at such tempting prices. We recommend you buy as much of this wine as you can afford.
To drink now, we are currently offering the 2004 vintage from the same source in the List. The 2005, however, will benefit hugely from longer in bottle, and should be drunk between 2010 and 2015. The Society’s Exhibition Pauillac 2005 is offered now at £210 per dozen or £17.50 per bottle.
This offer is open until Saturday 14th November, 2009 while stocks last.
