It’s a classic, mellow blend of mainly tempranillo with proportions of graciano, garnacha and mazuelo – and includes fruit from Contino’s most famous ‘Olivo’ plot, the source of their top wine.
The wine will be packed in six-bottle wooden cases (including a wine note written by Jésus Madrazo). It will provide many years of drinking pleasure.
What’s in a name?
This exclusive 2014 follows the first vintage The Society offered – the 2010, which was called Contino ‘930’. The olive tree that grows in Contino’s beautiful vineyard on the Ebro river is some 900 years old, or so we were told on our first visit exactly 34 years ago – hence the name of this unique cuvée, ‘934’.

The 2014 season in Rioja was a warm one which resulted in remarkably concentrated and generous fruit flavours. So good, in fact, that this wine will be surprisingly approachable in its youth – but like all Contino Riojas, this is built to last. It’s a classic blend of around 90% tempranillo with a 10% mix of graciano, mazuelo and garnacha, aged in high-quality French and American oak, before being bottled this spring. Duty and VAT will be payable when the wine is withdrawn.
