Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine sur Lie, Domaine des Ratelles, 2010 (Laurence et Gérard Vinet)

"This is a textbook Muscadet. Yes, it is dry - as Muscadet should be - but the quality of the fruit is so perfectly ripe that there is a seam of sweetness running through it. This would be heaven with a dozen tremendously fresh native oysters. Or even with a packet of crisps. Time to stock up on the 2010 vintage, because Muscadet growers were hit by grim weather in 2011, making it a very troublesome year."

The Society's Verdicchio

"This is a really nice white. Very crisp and fresh tasting. Highly recommended. "

The Society's Pinot Grigio

"I have found this wine to be very unreliable. Some batches are fantastic, but some are very poor with a rather unpleasant vermouth type after taste. Personally I have stopped buying this wine and would not recommend it. The unreliability makes it poor value I feel. "

Cuvée Le Levraut Blanc, Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise, 2010

"Just enjoyed 2 bottles with salmon - excellent white burgandy with buttery 'chalonnaise' taste. Will buy again as a standard white burgandy for the wine cupboard."

Killerby Chardonnay, 2010, Western Australia

"This has a very distinctive taste. Its dryness complemented the fruit with the alcoholic punch at the end to give it real bite. This was drunk in the back garden with the sun shining and reading a good novel-an ideal combination. It is an absolute steal at the price and would recommend it to anyone."

Mr Martin Hart ( 14-May-2012 )

£5.95

Lascar Carmenère, 2011

"This was a rich, deep, flavoursome wine which was an unexpected bargain for the price. Bought as part of the under £6 promotion and bought another three after tasting it!"

Mr Martin Hart ( 14-May-2012 )

£5.25

Minervois, Domaine Sainte Eulalie Rosé, 2011

"Unfortunately, this is not a patch on last years vintage, which was superb. Lacking in acidity and flavour, & more expensive!"

Chinon, Domaine de la Semellerie, 2010 (Fabrice Delalande)

"Truly excellent for the cabernet franc fan. I wish that there was a wider choice - I will have to stock up on this."

The Society's Exhibition Peumo Merlot, 2010

"Spot on - this was a sumptuous red that does exactly what it says on the tin; our taste buds pricked up as soon as this slipped down. After a disappointing Society St Emilion this reaffirmed our faith in the quality and value of the collection."

Mr Rupert Lane ( 13-May-2012 )

Viña Amézola Gran Reserva, Rioja, 2001

"Quite a light aroma, but lovely, of vanilla, ripe fruit and something almost minty or of eucalyptus: strawberries, raspberries and mostly cranberries, combined with sweetish, herby, gamey notes, reminiscent of roast pheasant. Medium body, medium acid, highish tannins, almost with a hint of sweetness, very tasty, fresh and lively on the palate, with a long finish of fruit, oak, and very obviously coconut at the very end that lingers on for quite a while. Temperanillo, Mazuelo, Graciano, 30 months in oak."
