Members' Reviews

"I am sorry to say that I found The Society's Claret somewhat disappointing. I bought it because I thought that it was likely to be good, but found it rather flat and uninspiring."
Mr David Ingham (17-Aug-2009)
""Generally excellent because not oaky, heavy or "Medocky", but with body and character. Great with everything, including fish. Only criticism is that quality can be inconsistent." Note from The Wine Society: We want all wine purchased from The Society to be enjoyable. If it is not, then we would like to hear about it, and would encourage members to contact Member Services on 01438 741177."
Mr David H Neckar (13-Aug-2009)
"I have been drinking the Society's Claret for many years and find it a good quality wine at an affordable price. Occasionally when in France I buy other wines but my staple is the Society's Claret which not only suits my taste but also that of friends with whom I sometimes share it."
Dr John A Hostettler (08-Aug-2009)
"A first rate claret for the price - I'll buy it again!"
Mr Keith Fletcher (07-Aug-2009)
"A lovely soft everyday drinking claret offering excellent value for money and much better drinking than many expensive chateau bottled wines."
Mr Timothy D Mitchell (07-Aug-2009)
"I've been buying - and drinking - The Society's Claret for 25+ years. Why? The taste, of course. Reliable consistency. Value for money. And, in these days of climbing alcohol levels, its modest strength. Along with The Society's Beaujolais, it's an ideal, inexpensive, everyday house red. Leaving Sunday lunchtimes for something a bit more racy! "
Mr Ian Duke (06-Aug-2009)
"Pleasant everyday drinking well balanced not too much fruit or alcohol good finish."
Mr Raymond Woolley (06-Aug-2009)
"A pleasant wine at a modest price, very suitable for everyday drinking and much enjoyed."
Mr Douglas Gardiner (06-Aug-2009)
"I joined the Society during Lent 1979 when I was in one of my periodic periods of abstention but with the difference that at the end of Lent I found myself definitively converted to a vegetarian and teetotal habit. So it has happened that my buying from the Society has been entirely for the benefit of my family and friends whose responses over the years have given me great, if only vicarious, pleasure. Society claret has ranked very high for the consistently maintained quality preserving from year to year a recognisable character. All of my informants think it outstanding for price, quality and reliability."
Francis J Benton Esq (06-Aug-2009)
"For anyone who enjoys red Bordeaux, The Society's Claret is an eminently drinkable wine, representing excellent value and really good, consistent quality."
Mr Robert Wainwright (06-Aug-2009)
"When you buy wine from the supermarket at 50% off the original price of £8.99 you do not know whether the wine is really worth the £4.50 you are paying for it. When you pay the very small additional premium for the Society's Claret you know that what you are buying is certain to be worth every penny and comes from one of the best, if not the best, French suppliers. "
Mr Nigel Wood (05-Aug-2009)
"The Society claret has been our in house wine of choice for many years. The quality has been excellent and the blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot suits our taste for everyday drinking. I believe it offers good value and excellent quality."
Michael N Whiteman Esq (05-Aug-2009)
"Great value Claret, everyday drinking wine, not too heavy a delight for the summer evening BBQ as well as Sunday Lunch!"
Mr Nicholas Challacombe (05-Aug-2009)
