The Buying Team
Our team of buyers is headed by Pierre Mansour and between them they share out the various wine-producing regions of the world to seek out the best bottles for our members. Pierre Mansour joined the buying team in 2003 and was promoted to the position of Head of Buying in 2017. He is responsible for Spain and Lebanon.
Tim Sykes joined The Society in March 2012. Tim is responsible for the purchasing of Bordeaux, Beaujolais and Sherry.
Sebastian Payne, MW joined The Wine Society in 1973. He served as Chief Wine Buyer from 1985–2012 and buys The Society's Italian wines.
Marcel Orford-Williams has been with The Society since 1986. He buys The Society's Rhône, Southern and regional French wines and Germany.
Toby Morrhall has been a Wine Society buyer since 1992, and covers Burgundy, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.
Joanna Locke, MW joined The Society in 2004. Her buying responsibilities include Alsace, Loire, South Africa and Portugal, including Port and Madeira.
Sarah Knowles MW joined The Society in March 2014 and has taken over responsibility for purchasing wines from Champagne, Australia, New Zealand, North America and Austria, as well as overseeing our portfolio of sparkling wines and spirits. Sarah passed her Masters of Wine qualification in 2015 and won a prize for submitting the best research paper.
Freddy Bulmer joined the buying team in September 2015 having originally moved down from Yorkshire to work in Member Services as a Christmas temp in 2013. Freddy is responsible for Austria, Eastern Europe, England, as well as being buyer for beer, cider and accessories.
Sarah Mercer is our food buyer, sourcing the contents for The Society's gifts and Christmas hampers.
