International Wine Challenge Awards
The ‘Oscars of the wine trade’ returned in July and we were delighted to receive four IWC awards:
- Wine Club of the Year (for the third year in a row)
- Specialist Merchant for Eastern Europe
- Specialist Merchant for Portugal (for the fifth time in eight years)
- Specialist Merchant for Regional France (for the fourth year in a row)
Wine Club of the Year
In the words of the judges: 'Being a member of The Wine Society feels like belonging to a genuine club… they offer not just excellent wines but a series of exciting events.'
'Whilst they are a pillar of the establishment, they are continuously reaching out to new drinkers. They are as dynamic now as when they were founded in 1874.'
Eastern Europe: Specialist Merchant of the Year
We’ve been focusing on and expanding this range over the past year and we’re chuffed to see so many members discovering the remarkable quality and value that buyer Freddy Bulmer has been sourcing. To receive this award is the icing on the cake.
Portugal: Specialist Merchant of the Year
Another Society hat-trick, we’re thrilled to have won this again: after all, we were founded on casks of Portuguese wine back in 1874! Thanks to buyer Joanna Locke MW’s efforts, we’re able to stock the exciting fruits of Portugal’s thriving modern wine scene and warmly encourage members to explore them.
Regional France: Specialist Merchant of the Year
Last but not least, and for the fourth year in a row, our regional French range was named the UK’s best, and it remains an honour to work with such an array of talented growers from France’s myriad of exciting regions, big and small.
