On a roll
The USA continues with strong growth through the year. In California the 2018 harvest has been described as 'classic': no heat spikes and very little pressure to pick at harvest. Yields were up a little on 2017, and most of the producers I spoke to are very positive.
The presence of fires continued in 2018, this time nearer the Sierra Nevada, with the tragic destruction of the town of Paradise. Again the wine community more or less avoided direct fire damage, but the social impact is being felt across the state.
I continue to delight in new finds, both at the top end and at more moderate prices. The January offer went well and a packed schedule of emails, dinners and events is planned for the year.
