Geoff Weaver knew from an early age that he wanted to work in the great outdoors and when he got the chance he left home to study agriculture at Adelaide University. Armed with his degree, gained in 1970, he got himself a job with the famous Orlando wine company, studied oenology at Roseworthy College and in 1974 earned a winemaker's position, first at Orlando and then at Hardys.
Eventually he rose to become head winemaker at Hardys between 1988 and 1992, where he was given the leeway to make his own wines. He and his wife Judy had acquired some land in the then untested Adelaide Hills region in 1982 and the next year planted riesling and chardonnay. Later came sauvignon blanc and by 1992 the business had expanded to the extent that he had to make a choice between Hardy's and his own estate. He chose the latter and has never looked back.
Based at Lenswood, Geoff has established an enviable reputation for producing wines of intensity, concentration and complexity while retaining great freshness and balance. The wines very much express the low-fertility of the ancient soils and the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills terroir as well as his skills as a grower and winemaker.
