Château Les Vieux Ormes

This estate has been run by the Moueix family since the 2012 vintage, having taken over from the Garde family in that year. Oenologist Yannick Reyrel, at one time winemaker at the Pomerol property Château Vray Croix de Gay, has been installed to assist and consult on production alongside the sixth generation of the Gardes at the estate, Frédéric. They follow a sustainable regime that uses horses to plough the vineyard and eschew the use of herbicides.

The 15 hectares are planted with 80% merlot and 10% each of cabernets sauvignon and franc, and the vines average nearly 40 years of age. They take the trouble to manually sort the grapes by hand as they arrive at the winery and then fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats so that the character of the fruit is preserved.
