Aiguilhe, acquired by Saint-Emilion producer Stephan von Neipperg in 1998, is one of the most impressive estates in the Côtes de Castillon.
The aiguilhe (meaning 'needle') was the rocky outcrop on which the original château was built, and around which the vineyards today are planted.
The clay-limestone soil is planted with 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc covering 50 hectares. The harvest is carried out by hand and sorted before destemming. Fermentation is in temperature-controlled wooden vats and the resulting wine is aged for 15 to 20 months in barrel before bottling.
