Acquired by the Yvonne and Henri Foucaud in 1963, Château de Musset's vineyards now cover nearly 28 hectares planted mostly with merlot (76%) and the remainder largely cabernet sauvignon with just a little cabernet franc and malbec too, on soils of clay-gravel and sandy-gravel.
Owners Michel and Jean-Yves are the children of Yvonne and Henri and have been in charge since 1988, though they worked here with their parents for a few years before taking over. Today the next generation (Camille, Aurore, Jean-François, Virginie and Fanny) are all involved.
Harevsting is done by machine so that fruit can be picked quickly at optimum ripeness and the grapes are sorted on arrival at the chai, built in 2000, before a gentle crushing and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels for over a year before bottling.
