Brent Marris grew up in New Zealand's Marlborough region - his father was one of the region's first contract grape growers - and went on to work his winemaking magic at the region's Oyster Bay winery, before being part of the team that created Wither Hills. Then, in 2003, he decided to embark upon creating his own property, and he chose Marlborough's Waihopai Valley in which to do it.
He called it Marisco Vineyards, and runs it to this day with his wife Rosemary, and from here he created the iconic 'The Ned' label. The 260 hectares of vines are in a single block on the banks of the Waihopai river, not far from the Delta Hills, and enjoy a complex mixture of clay and alluvial soils. Brent grows sauvignon blanc, pinot gris and pinot noir.
The Wine Society works directly with Brent, selecting some of the best sauvignon blanc fruit from his vineyards which he bottles exclusively for us under the Three Terraces label. It is crafted to reflect the unadulterated, pungent and tropical style of Marlborough sauvignon which has made this region so famous. Three Terraces, along with all Brent's wines, are produced at the 'New Generation' winery with temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Brent's vision was that this property would be a legacy for future generations, and this is already becoming a reality - his eldest daughter is currently training to be a winemaker.
