Castillo de Viñas comes from a bodega located in Alfaro which is within the Baja district of Rioja.
This is the most southern part of Rioja, benefiting from a warmer Mediterranean climate, so grapes tend to ripen with richer flavours, producing appealing, round reds.
Castillo de Viñas is put together by Jésus Madrazo, winemaker at Contino: the crianza tends to be 90% tempranillo and 10% graciano, aged for 12 months in American oak. It is a concentrated expression of the oaky, traditional style of Rioja.
