Champagne Corbon is a Champagne house that makes wine only from grapes grown on their estate at Avize on the slopes of the Côte des Blancs.
Today fluent English speaker Agnés Corbon makes the wines, following in the footsteps of her father who, in 1971, took the brave decision to stop selling grapes at unsustainable prices to bigger houses and began making his own Champagne from them instead. He loved doing so and never looked back, but at first it appeared that Agnés was not interested in the ‘family business’ and she went to work in the UK in the packaging and food industries. However, after five years she decided that it was time to come home and after taking courses in oenology and viticulture in Alsace she returned to help her dad in 2006, and now makes the wines.
Like her father before her, she has a strong conviction that great wines do not need technical tricks to make them. As such the Corbon’s do not fine or filter their wines, use no additives in their making and then age them on the lees for a minimum of three years. These are handcrafted wines of character and depth.
