A family-owned property for the last four generations, Haut-Sociondo is situated in the Blaye (pronounce it to rhyme with 'my') region next to the Côtes de Bourg in Bordeaux. The region produces accessible, fruit-forward, good-value wines that are best drunk young, and Haut-Sociondo is a fine example that has been a favourite amongst Society members for a number of years.
Château Haut-Sociondo is found on an area of south-facing slopes on the northern bank of the Gironde. The estate is owned by the Martinaud family, and has forty acres of predominantly merlot vineyards (80%), the remainder being cabernet sauvignon, well suited to the region's limestone soils. The average age of the vines is 20 years.
One of the reasons this property enjoys success year on year is its consistent drive for quality, and its loyal following continues to enjoy Haut Sociondo's straightforward everyday Bordeaux style.
