Château Kirwan

Kirwan has earned a reputation in recent years for providing generous fruity claret in the best modern style.

The château is in the Margaux commune of Cantenac, not far from Boyd Cantenac and Angludet, and has been owned by Dutch Bordeaux négociants the Schyler family for many years. However, it enjoyed an upsurge in quality in the 1990s when the family decided to make the effort required to bring it back to its true status as a classed growth.

The vineyard is planted 40% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 10% petit verdot. The petit verdot is an important element in adding body and richness to the mix and is often found in the commune of Margaux. The wine is aged 18 months in barrel, of which about 40% are new.
