Espelt is a company that owns 200 hectares of vines in Empordà in the Costa Brava region at the north-eastern extremity of Spain, wedged up against the French border and the Mediterranean.
When the tramuntana wind blows, the light has a surreal clarity, which inspired local artists like Salvador Dali, whose museum and houses are in the region. The Catalan taste for modernism is reflected in their labels and their state-of-the-art winery.
Their attractive Catalan blend comprises sweet and peppery garnacha for richness and fruit, with carineña for structural support. Sauló is the name of the decomposed granite soil of the region.
