The cooperative movement has always been strong in the south of France and remains so to this day. In the southern part of the Ardèche departement that desire to mutualise began early in the 20th century, finally reaching its present structure in 1967. At the Vignerons Ardèchois there are some 1500 growers representing 6000 hectares, all mostly centered on the Cévennes hills and the famous Gorges de l'Ardèche.
