On a recent trip to Bordeaux, I was offered a small parcel of one of the world’s greatest ever wines – Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac 2005 – direct from the château, to offer to our members both In Bond and in single-bottle wooden cases.
2005 is often heralded as one of the finest Bordeaux vintages in the region’s history and it continues to retain its position amongst the greats. I tasted the 2005 Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux earlier this year. It is only just entering its drinking window and will continue to evolve and develop for another 30 years with ease.

The colour is only just starting to show signs of evolution, with a nose that bursts from the glass with aromas of crushed graphite, leather, rose petals, cured meat, blackberries and plum. The palate is hugely concentrated, with tightly knit, fine-boned tannins that coat the mouth in a flavour-packed film of pencil lead, thyme and leather. The finish lasts for an age.
This wine is a truly bewitching experience, and it is amazing to consider how much longer it will continue to mature – a testament to the provenance of this special wine. Availability is extremely limited so all requests will be processed through our allocation system.
