The wines

Thanks to members’ enthusiasm for our past Austria en primeur offers, we have been able to further expand our selection this year. Each reflects the dedication of its maker and these producers’ commitment to crafting wines that express the best of Austria’s terroir. All are dry in style and stylistically span sleek, mineral-driven examples to fruit-forward, juicy expressions.

Mixed cases

Mixed Cases

To help you get the most out of this selection, we have put together four mixed cases that span the wines in the offer; perfect whether you are looking for firm favourites or new discoveries, to drink young or to cellar for years to come.

The producers: Kamptal

Kamptal is home to some of the greatest addresses in Austrian wine. This top-quality region, based around the town of Langenlois, is set back from the Danube and instead is more influenced by the river Kamp, which runs from north to south, bringing cooling winds through the vineyards which contribute to the wines’ freshness and focus. It also shares the same latitude with the south of Champagne and northern parts of Burgundy, so is prime for serious white wine production. The best wines have finesse, class and considerable structure which sets them up to age beautifully.

The region is home to some of the country’s top vineyards, such as Heiligenstein for riesling, as well as Lamm and Käferberg for grüner veltliner. The three estates in this offer are some of the best and most revered producers in Austria. Put simply, these three wineries range from earliest picked and most stylistically focused (Jurtschitsch) through to later-picked and more stylistically grand (Schloss Gobelsburg), with Bründlmayer sitting somewhere in the middle.

The producers: Kremstal

Based around the city of Krems an der Donau, the Kremstal region straddles the Danube, with the majority of vineyards on the northern bank, although with some excellent wineries (such as Geyerhof) to the south. The variable topography allows for a diverse range of wine styles, from fuller and richer to tense, tight and mineral-driven.

These wines all offer charm and friendliness; at their most basic, a simple and delicious drink; at their most complex, a beautifully produced, ageworthy and great-value fine wine. You will also find superb value as the region sits between the more famous and premium regions of Wachau and Kamptal, and is commercially somewhat in their shadow.

Despite being relatively under the radar compared to regions like Burgundy, these producers take a similar approach to farming their often small, fragmented vineyard plots, producing wines reflective of their unique terroir. In fact, Kamptal and Kremstal share a similar latitude to the very north of Burgundy, so it makes sense that these wines should draw comparison. However, because so many of the best examples are enjoyed within Austria, they are a little lesser known and have much lower price tags, too.

Thanks to our excellent relationships with many of Austria’s top producers, we’re able to offer you global first access to secure stocks of 26 yet-to-be-released 2024 vintage single-vineyard whites from six of the country’s best wineries. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure world-class single-vineyard white wines at their best possible prices. We’ve also included four convenient mixed cases to make short work of reserving your share.

The classification system

Austria's approach to classifying their quality wines has been arguably the most fastidious and drawn-out of any wine country in recent decades. The ÖTW (Österreichische Traditionsweingüter), today led by Michael Moosbrugger of Schloss Gobelsburg, has tasted every new release from every top vineyard of lower Austria over more than 30 years, slowly defining which are the sites that have the capability to produce the finest expressions of Austrian fine wine.

The vintage

2024 is one of the most approachable vintages I’ve tasted, with wines that are juicy, complete, and harmonious in their youth. While not as long-term a vintage as some, many wines will still age gracefully for more than a decade. The season was marked by extremes: high temperatures and low water levels early in the growing season which resulted in low yields, followed by late-season flooding. Despite the challenges, the wines have a vibrancy and freshness that speak to the skill of the winemakers and the resilience of the vines. These wines truly show why Austria’s dry whites are considered some of the finest in the world. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to secure these remarkable wines at unbeatable prices!
