Christina & Rainer Wess
It’s a new chapter for father-daughter duo Rainer and Christina Wess after new owners took over their old winery last year. In her 20s, Christina is a rising star of Austrian wine, while Rainer brings decades of experience, including time at the respected Domäne Wachau. The timing of their departure was unfortunate, and they lost access to their vineyards at harvest time. However, the local winemaking community rallied around them, offering access to their facilities for the 2024 vintage. The result is an excellent series of one-off releases, blended from fruit sourced from other top winemakers in the region – a testament to the supportive nature of the wine industry. I’ve been conservative with the drink dates, as this new venture doesn’t yet have the history to fully predict its ageing potential.
