Weingut Bründlmayer
This family estate dates to 1581, but it was when Willi Bründlmayer returned to Austria from Burgundy in the 1980s that its rise to becoming one of the country’s best producers began. Willi introduced a Burgundian approach to quality and appreciation of terroir to Austria which was controversial at the time, but which sowed the seeds of modern Austrian fine wine today. He still heads the winery with his wife Edwige, but they are supported by the incredibly talented Master of Wine Andreas Wickhoff. Stylistically, these are Goldilocks wines, with fleshy flavours but a precise and pristine structure, which are held in extremely high regard year on year.
