Carmes Haut-Brion has rightly been one of the most sought-after estates in recent vintages and Guillaume Pouthier has continued this with an energetic and textured 2024. 48% cabernet franc provides redcurrant and cool blackcurrant fruit with astonishingly fine pinprick like tannins and sparky acid, with 29% cabernet sauvignon providing great vigour and drive to the mid-palate, and 23% merlot a supple generosity. 52% whole bunch alongside 70% new oak during elevage will add further complexity, with 19% in large vats and 11% in amphora giving great refinement. Production was 60% down compared to a normal year so to release at such an attractive price should be applauded.
Remaining stocks of this in-bond offer are available and will be sold on a first come first served basis.
