A slight change of pace this year for Mouton Rothschild with the most structured and insular of the First Growths at this stage showing powerful grippy tannins and a firm, linear palate. Plenty of extraction provides the framework for the deep cassis, smoke and graphite notes whilst the nose will require time to unfurl. Cabernet sauvignon dominates as the norm with 93% alongside 7% merlot in support providing much needed flesh to the currently firm tannin that are sure to mellow and integrate during 18 months in new oak. Will require time but with great rewards for those that have the patience.
