Contino 941 Reserva, the new vintage of The Society’s collaboration with this outstanding Rioja property, is now available to buy en primeur.
Winemaker Jorge Nevascuez rates 2021 as the best vintage of Contino in 15 years. It is a year characterised by spicy, intense fruit with immense depth, elegance and velvety tannins. The flavour of this wine lasts and lasts, confirming a great harvest. The wine has just been bottled and will age in Contino’s naturally cool cellars until release in 2025, and so qualifies as a reserva.

Three plots provide the fruit – San Rafael, Triangulo and Olivo – with the 2021 made up of majority tempranillo, with around 15% of graciano and mazuelo which has been aged in a mixture of French and American oak for 17 months.
This exclusive 2021 is the ninth vintage The Society has offered – the 2010, which was called Contino 930 being the first. The olive tree that grows in Contino’s beautiful vineyard on the Ebro River is 900 years old, or so we were told on our first visit 41 years ago – hence the name of this unique cuvée: 941.
