The 2023 vintage of Alain Brumont’s celebrated Madiran estates, Bouscassé and Montus, is a triumph. The crop was small, but the wines combine finesse, rich fruit flavours and balance to perfection. Don’t miss your chance to reserve them.

One of the biggest events here has been the appointment of Antoine Veiry, Alain’s stepson, as winemaker at the Brumont estates. He has all the passion and dedication of his stepfather, with a willingness to get the best out of these two estates.
The challenge he faces is in the unpredictable climate and often very high summer temperatures as in the 2023 vintage. Antoine’s way of doing things is to do as little as possible in the cellar as any forced extraction will only harden wines that quite naturally already have all the necessary matter. Work in the vineyard is another matter and much time is spent protecting from intense direct sunlight so there is or example a big project of planting trees.
The makeup of some of the wines has also been developed. To counter the tannat’s ability to produce very ripe grapes with high alcohol levels, more cabernet is being used. This vintage, with its heat and coolness, expresses a real sense of place with wines that will age and improve over many years.
