One of our winemakers described the 2019 Brunello vintage to me as ‘magical’, and it is a great vintage. It is one where cherry-picking the best wines was a pleasure, and I am delighted to offer a selection here. There’s also a mixed case of wines that are really showing their precise terroir in this super vintage.

It was a year when the weather harked back to the 1990s, with a wet winter allowing for ideal accumulation of water in the soils, a warm consistent summer without the more recent heat spikes we have seen, and a warm, stable autumn with only a few showers at harvest. All this made the season a relatively straightforward one in the vineyard and resulted in beautiful, healthy grapes that had good natural acidity and classic structural tannins. Across the wines I have tasted, the commonality was the purity and crunch of the fruit flavours, all supported by very classic sangiovese tannins and acidity that will allow these wines to age wonderfully if given the time.
