A selection of 100-year-old vines, mostly grenache, and only made in the best vintages, Le Plateau is a very special Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is markedly different from Mont-Redon’s other wine, and made on an altogether grander scale: dark, concentrated and dense, yet with remarkable energy and longevity. This is your chance to reserve this wine from the remarkable 2018 vintage.
Order by midday on Friday 1st November
Châteauneuf-du-Pape covers a large area, about the same size as Saint-Emilion. Not surprisingly, there’s a lot of diversity with radically different soil types. Land rarely goes above an altitude of 120m, and yet altitude plays a part with the highest points regarded among the best sites of Châteauneuf.
One of the most praised of all is the plateau area of Mont-Redon, with its fields strewn with large pudding stones. This is where this wine comes from. The heat and drought in 2018 was intense, but these old vines, with their deep roots, found water and the fruit ripened to perfection.
The result is a wine of harmonious balance and richness with ripe tannins and luscious fruit flavours. It will age well and gain in complexity but can be enjoyed on release.
