Garmón and San Roman are the wines of the legendary Garcia family from Spain’s Ribera del Duero. Father Mariano was winemaker at Ribera’s most famous estate, Vega Sicilia, between 1968 and 1998, a time when its wines ascended to legendary fine-wine status. With his son Eduardo, he now crafts Garmón and San Roman, fine wines that epitomise the best of the Ribera del Duero and Toro regions.
Both these wines have a strong following in Spain and I’m delighted that they are now available to members.

2021 is an outstanding vintage in Ribera and the result is a polished, fragrant Garmón 2021. Mostly tempranillo (here known as tinta fino) with a splash of cabernet sauvignon, its freshness balances the wonderfully intense, weighty black-fruit flavours of these old vines (ranging from 30 to 100 years old).
The 2021 San Roman from Toro, situated to the west of Ribera, is a blockbuster. Made from 100% tempranillo (known in Toro as tinta de Toro), it is inky-black, sensuous and layered with dark berry fruit that lasts and lasts on the finish.
