I’m thrilled to offer you the first release of La Rioja Alta’s Gran Reserva 904 2016 – an exceptional vintage of a standout wine from one of Rioja’s most iconic, classic stars, both by the bottle and in magnificent magnums. Headquartered in the Barrio del Estación, the old railway quarter of Haro, La Rioja Alta is one of the most traditional bodegas and excels in classically styled reservas and gran reservas.

The 2016 vintage is a real highlight for me in general, with its cooler, more Atlantic influence. When visiting La Rioja Alta last year, the 904 2016 shone during the tasting. Although still very youthful, it displayed beautiful aromatic lift and freshness. What struck me most was the wine’s quiet power – it is layered, refined and packed with flavour, with everything in its place. Elegant, but not shy, this is proper Gran Reserva Rioja, built to age, but already showing class and complexity. Wild strawberries, sweet spices, chocolate, balsamic and vanilla – it’s all there.
