Le Prieuré Saint-Jean de Bébian is one of the iconic estates of the Languedoc, with a diverse terroir and extremely old vines which are perfectly suited to producing wines of intense perfume and complexity of flavour.

In his 13 years at the helm, owner Benoît Pontenier has gradually evolved the character of his flagship wine from the rather muscular and structured reds of the past to a more accessible and polished style, with real finesse. He has reduced the amount of extraction and is now using larger oak casks with less new wood to let the fruit express itself. In his opinion, syrah is no longer right for the Languedoc – and others have said the same. So, he has taken it out of the grand vin, instead using a mix of 70% grenache and 30% cinsault.
He describes his 2023 as the best vintage he has produced, with exceptional balance and energy. This is an exquisite wine not to be missed.
