I absolutely adore the 2023 German vintage. The wines are charming, with lovely ripeness, acidity and balance and remind me of so called ‘classic’ vintages of cool citrus rather than tropical-fruit flavours. Joh. Jos. Prüm in the Mosel Valley and Bürklin-Wolf in the Pfalz both have women at the helm who have elevated their estates to the top level of German winemaking. I am delighted to offer you their 2023 vintage releases.
Order by midday on Friday, 8th November
The wines from Joh. Jos. Prüm populate my own cellar more than most thanks to their consistent quality, their brilliant ageability (I tasted an incredibly youthful 2004 this year) and the great value for money they always offer. The 2023s are described by Katharina Prüm as fresh and classic, similar to 2015 in style.
Bürklin-Wolf are one of our oldest partners and we have a strong relationship. With Bettina Bürklin-von Guradze at its head, and working biodynamically, the estate’s focus is on terroir-led wines. In 2023, some August rain led to a reduction in crop and required rigorous selection of healthy grapes during harvest that has led to deliciously juicy and energetic wines.
