Ridge 2023

Incredible fine-wine value from a California legend

Ridge 2023

Ridge continues to make some of California’s greatest, most classic and enduring wines, with their zinfandel field blends offering incredible value in global fine wine terms. I am excited to offer the new releases today – including a mixed case – ahead of them arriving in our warehouse this summer.

Order by midday on Friday 16th May

One of the highlights of covering our USA range while Sarah Knowles MW is on maternity leave was tasting the full range of new Ridge vintages in early March. Not many people in the world have this opportunity, but The Wine Society has such a long and strong relationship with Ridge that we always get to taste the new releases ahead of the rest of the market – and what a tasting it was! Ridge’s meticulous, unwavering attention to detail, in both the vineyards and the cellar, yields wines of purity, high definition and real sense of place.

2023 presented a uniquely cool growing season for Ridge’s deep-rooted old zinfandel vineyards at Lytton Springs, Geyserville, Pagani Ranch and across Sonoma. The relatively cold but consistent conditions enabled even fruit-ripening as the summer progressed and a long, slow harvest, which has led to expressive, perfumed zinfandels, inherently intense (as ever), but with brilliant vibrancy and freshness. These wines always have a promising future in the cellar, but the 2023s have particularly compelling ageing potential.

Thanks to our long-term relationship with Ridge, we again have access to Pagani Ranch zinfandel exclusively in the UK for our members, alongside the iconic Lytton Springs and Geyserville pair. Three Valleys, which comes from a number of Sonoma sites, is particularly charming this year, and is the wine to go for if you would like to start drinking your purchases sooner rather than later – it’s irresistibly delicious now.
