Stéphane Tissot has been showered with praise from wine critics, sommeliers, wine buyers and drinkers alike, and deservedly so. Thankfully, however, his wines remain accessible and affordable. We are thrilled to be able to offer you his latest releases.
Order by midday on Friday 4th April
Stéphane took over the winery from his parents and gradually increased the amount of vineyard holdings, buying exceptional parcels of land that he diligently converted to organic and biodynamic viticulture. His meticulous care in the vineyard enables him to adopt a more hands-off approach in the winery, allowing spontaneous fermentation (rather than adding commercial yeast) and reducing sulphur additions, allowing the expression of the terroir to shine.
He is a passionate tour de force of a winemaker, which helps explain his constant experimentation and prolific number of wines. Here, I have selected some of his standouts.
The Patchwork Chardonnay for me is where sheer quality and value align with the fruit coming vines of over 25 years old from various parcels and microclimates. The Trousseau in 2023 is a step up from the 2022, a cooler vintage that has lower alcohol but a lot more wild berry aromas and purity. The Arbois Savagnin Sous Voile is a great introduction into the magic of the Jura region and is often described as a ‘mini Vin Jaune’. With its complex yeasty, salty and nutty aromas, it is a wine that comes into its own with food (think roast chicken with morels and Comté cheese).
We also have a tiny allocation of the Arbois Rouge Sans Souffre, that I simply couldn’t turn down. Named after Stéphane’s father it is a blend of poulsard, trousseau and pinot noir that has a high percentage of whole-bunch fermentation, giving lots of perfume and polished tannins.
Jura is a small but mighty wine region that can offer an extensive range of varieties and styles. You will not be left disappointed if you explore these wines, particularly from a grower as talented as this one.
