First release: Vega Sicilia

Alión is Vega Sicilia’s expression of Ribera del Duero, produced using a selection of over 300 meticulously selected parcels spanning the Ribera del Duero region. Made entirely from tinto fino (tempranillo), and aged in mostly French oak, as well as foudres and concrete, it is characterised by freshness and spicy, plummy fruit. The cooler 2021 vintage adds notes of violets and herbs, alongside the estate’s signature depth and power, making it an excellent introduction to the Vega style at a more accessible price. The 2015 of this iconic and legendary Spanish red is profoundly elegant in spite of its unmistakable power and concentration following a hot and challenging vintage. A testament to winemaker Gonzalo Iturriaga de Juan, especially as 2015 was his first year at Vega Sicilia. A blend of 94% tinto fino (tempranillo) and 6% cabernet sauvignon the wine was aged for almost 10 years before release, of which five years are spent in French and American oak. Powerful, multi-layered, firm and earthy. Drink from 2027 to 2045. 14.5%

Bottled earlier than the renowned Unico, Valbuena 5 is made from tinto fino (97%) and merlot (3%) from vines located close to the river. Despite challenges like navigating Covid-19 and heavy rainfall just before harvest, 2020 proved to be a ripe and balanced vintage in capable hands. The Valbuena 2020 is expressive, floral, and energetic, offering immediate, forward appeal alongside remarkable focus, depth, and complexity. Drink from 2026 to 2038. 14%
