150th Anniversary Collection French Case
Wines included
The Society's 150th Anniversary Hermitage 2015
Being given the keys to the cellars of the world-famous Paul Jaboulet Aîné is no small deal. For a wine to mark our 150th birthday we were allowed to make our own interpretation of Hermitage. and ended up using half-and-half of fruit from Méal and Diognière. The result is rich, succulent and very full-flavoured: a grand statement in an extraordinary vintage. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Society's 150th Anniversary Margaux 2015
When it came to a Margaux for our anniversary celebrations, we were delighted that Ben Sichel at Château Angludet allowed us to blend our own unique cuvée from 2015, one of the great Margaux vintages of this century. Combining the classic perfume and silky texture associated with the commune, it is 55% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot and 8% petit verdot, aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, 35% of which were new. Bottled in July 2017, it has been maturing in our cellars ever since. It is now hitting its sweet spot: scented and pure on the nose, fleshy and succulent on the palate, with notes of violets and a hint of cigar box. The tannins are perfectly rounded and ripe, lending the wine real charm and personality. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Society's 150th Anniversary Meursault Narvaux (Louis Jadot) 2018
Louis Jadot are widely regarded as having one of the finest winemaking reputations in Burgundy and were an obvious choice of partner for this special celebratory bottle. 2018 was a very good vintage for white Burgundy and Narvaux is a fine, hillside vineyard. This is a rich yet fresh-tasting Meursault. Round and ample with good supporting structure and grip. Matured about 18 months in barrel, and the fruit and oak combine harmoniously to produce an aromatic wine mingling honeysuckle-scented fruit with some vanilla from the oak. Decant 20 minutes before serving. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Society's 150th Anniversary Pauillac 2015
We couldn`t release a range of specially labelled fine wines to celebrate our 150th Anniversary without including a Pauillac, the king of Bordeaux`s Médoc communes, and Batailley seemed like the obvious place to go. With deep crimson colour and a classic nose of cassis, graphite and vanilla, this is a classy Pauillac with impressive depth and concentration. Ample fruit density and gravelly tannins complete the picture. An hour in a decanter before drinking is recommended for this wine as this will allow it to unfurl gradually. The Society's 150th Anniversary Louis Jadot Beaune PC (Domaine Gagey) 2015
2015 was a superb vintage in Burgundy. It is a ripe and powerful year yet all elements are present in pleasing proportions. The red wines have large quantities of tannins of the utmost quality yet such is their sweet and silky nature that they remain in the background and support the opulent fruit. This is a blend of two Beaune premiers crus, 85% Boucherottes and 15% Pertuisots, from vineyards owned by André Gagey (managing director of Jadot) matured for about 18 months in barrel, producing a round ample wine yet with excellent structure and keeping qualities. Decant 20 minutes before serving. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Society's 150th Anniversary Vintage Champagne 2012
Nicolas Jaeger declared the 2012 as an 'exceptional vintage'. The Champagne, disgorged in 2020, now has a rich brioche and preserved-lemon note on the nose, fine persistent bead, an elegant yet intense apple, plum and bread-yeast core with mouthwatering acidity lengthening the concentrated, long and balanced finish. We're delighted that this wine is part of our celebratory Anniversary Range in our 150th year. For a video message from the winemaker, and for more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
