The Wine Society’s Generation Series Graves Blanc 2021

The Generation Graves Blanc 2021 is a classic example of the style of dry white Bordeaux that was popular in Britain in the early to mid-twentieth century. For our Generation Series range to celebrate The Society’s 150th Anniversary we collaborated with one of Bordeaux’s most respected château owners and négociants, Dourthe. The result is a classically-styled dry white Bordeaux which displays mouthwatering notes of white peach and citrus, and a long aromatic finish. It can be enjoyed with a wide variety of fish and seafood dishes, poultry, flambéd chicken livers and goats cheese. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.

The Wine Society’s Generation Series Chianti Classico 2021

This exclusive Chianti was a winner in our 2024 Wine Champions blind tastings, a testament to the talents of Francesco Ricasoli, whose family has been making wine in Chianti Classico at Castello di Brolio since the 12th century. This traditional-style example has wonderful lift, with red apple and rosemary aromas and great elegance. The Wine Society’s Generation Series Vinsobres 2021

Altitude and mountain breezes make Vinsobres the ideal place to source a Côtes-du-Rhône, and this example, made for us by our old friends the Jaume family for our 150th anniversary, has bright open fruity notes of cherry and raspberry, ripe tasting but without any heaviness. One of the first wines ever bought by The Society, Bucelas is a fresh, dry white made from the arinto grape variety, with clean citrus and green apple aromas and crisp acidity. DOC Bucelas lies just north of Lisbon and the wines are made from the arinto grape variety, appley and lemony in their youth, with a core of minerality and the potential to develop greater complexity with bottle age. From sparkling specialists and long-term partner Gratien & Meyer's own Saumur vineyards, this is a classic blend based on the chenin blanc grape variety, with cabernet franc, and a little chardonnay and grolleau. It displays chenin and cabernet's freshness and minerality, its aromas enhanced by a hint of red fruits from the grolleau, rounded on the palate by chardonnay's body and texture. The Wine Society’s Generation Series Rioja Blanco Reserva 2018

In Rioja the era between 1924 and 1974 is notable for the quality of its aged white wines and The Society’s 150th Anniversary Reserva Blanco is a nod to this historic style, one that has become somewhat eroded in recent times. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels and a further three years in bottle, resulting in a complex white with hints of floral notes and buttery, nutty flavours, soft texture and precise finish. The Wine Society's Generation Series Cava Gran Reserva Brut 2019

1972 marked the birth of the denominacion 'Cava' as Spain’s sparkling wine, including the requirement for Cava to follow the traditional method where the second fermentation, which adds the sparkle, occurs within the bottle it is sold in. The small family producer of Sumarroca is behind this wine, aged for over two years on its lees, and then specially for the 150th bottling spends a further year in bottle after being disgorged. This enhances the toasty, appley flavour and mouthfeel, exuding the often underrated high quality of Cava. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
