Wines included
The Wine Society's Generation Series Wachenheimer Riesling 2021
This riesling to celebrate our anniversary is a blend of two Wachenheimer vineyards: Gerümpel and Goldbächel, picked and fermented together in large and venerable oak casks which helps give the wine added patina and weight without the wine tasting of oak. The vintage was an extraordinary one, relatively cool, sometimes damp and benefitting from a fine Indian summer. Wachenheimer rieslings are often pungent and spicy, no doubt due to vocanic soils. This is savoury and dry with hints of peach and lime. For a video message from the winemaker, and for more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
The Wine Society's Generation Series Mâcon Villages 2022
This is an attractive and complex blend of different Mâcon villages with 8% oak-aged wine to contribute principally structure, not aroma, and 19% from a superior appellation included to augment the quality. 2022 is a warm year producing ripe yet fresh fruit with a melony character. The Wine Society's Generation Series Marlborough Sauvignon 2023
Marlborough Sauvignon started on its meteoric rise in the late 1980s and has since become one of the most loved wine styles in the world. We have worked with Ben Glover, star winemaker of the region, to produce a special wine to represent this icon within our special 150th Anniversary range. It comes from premium vineyards in the region and demonstrates all the delicious appeal that has led to the incredible popularity of New Zealand`s most successful wine export. It`s impeccably crisp, generous and citrusy; a classy, complete and delicious wine with all the appeal fans of good New Zealand sauvignon rightly expect. The Wine Society's Generation Series Muscadet 2022
Second and third generations of the Chéreau family, Bernard and Louise respectively, created this unique wine for us for our 150th birthday Generation Series, and it combines their specialism in the sur Lie style with a nod to the past. A small component was raised in older oak barrels bringing extra breadth and complexity to muscadet`s natural freshness and appetising salinity. The Wine Society's Generation Series Bourgogne Aligoté 2022
This is a bright, mineral example of Burgundy`s aligoté grape. In a warm year, this late-ripening variety produces golden berries but retains its taut and refreshing character, so it is well set to thrive in a post globally warmed environment. It is a wine of the future as well as the present. Restrained and understated, this is beautifully poised and a delight for those who appreciate refreshment over richness. The Society's Generation Series South African Alvarinho 2024
The celebration of our 150th birthday goes on with new limited-edition releases of our Generation Series range looking at wines that point the way to the future and the challenges it will bring to winemakers. Grapes that have a track record of dealing with heat, like alvarinho, could be key and this zesty, crisp white is one to watch! For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.
