Aliança Reserva Tinto, Bairrada 2021
This Portuguese red is a friendly example of Bairrada's native grape baga, softened by tinta roriz (tempranillo) and touriga nacional, with fresh red fruits on the nose, light floral and smoky notes, and a nip of tannin on the finish.

Caves Aliança
A large producer and part of a large commercial group, Caves Aliança was founded in 1927 and now boasts over 400 hectares of vineyards. Originally an alliance of 11 partners, in 2007 financier Joe Berardo took a 60% share.
Caves Aliança now owns a number of estates across Portugal, providing vinification centres in Alentejo, Dão and Douro as well as at Sangalhos in Bairrada, its base. Quinta da Garrida is the Dão property with 112 hectares planted. There are two estates in Bairrada: Quinta das Baceladas with five hectares and Quinta da Rigodeira with 27.
Renowned international consultants Michel Rolland and now Pascal Chatonnet were brought in to raise quality which is remarkably good across the large range produced. At Sangalhos they have a wine shop and are well geared up to receive visitors, who pay a fee according to the depth of tasting they wish to experience.
